Assessment Updates
Grades 3-8 Assessment Guides: In order to best assess student learning of the CCLS, NYSED has developed new Grade 3-8 Common Core English Language Arts and Mathematics Tests. These new tests will be administered beginning in the spring 2013 and assess only CCLS. The assessment guides can be accessed here.
Teachers should still review and use the sample questions that were released earlier in preparing their students.

Making Evidence Based Claims
Making evidence-based claims about texts is a foundational literacy and critical thinking skill that lies at the heart of the CCSS. NYSED has created sample lessons focused on making evidence based claims as a model for teachers in Grades 6-12 which are located here. (View the lessons by clicking on the individual grades 6-12)
Observing the "Shifts"
NYSED has created tools to assist in observing the "shifts" as they are implemented in classrooms. They are helpful to provide evidence based feedback to teachers through this process and are located here.
